About Us

I'm Lucas Jacobson, owner/operator of Outside-Patagonia based in Bariloche, Argentina.
Thanks for visiting the website.
If you're interested, here's a bit about me.
I was born in a very remote area of northern Argentina which gave me a special appreciation for the outdoors. When I was 16 my family moved south, closer to the mountains, and I started to climb in the Andes. I've been mountaineering – trekking and climbing – ever since.

I've traveled and climbed throughout Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, the USA, Canada and Europe. I spent two summer seasons working in Aosta, Italy where I completed numerous ascents and climbing on the area.

At some point in my younger years, my career path steered me to the telecommunications industry, scaling towers and fixing cellular systems. But the mountains were never far away and I eventually returned to my roots and become a mountain guide since 2001.

In the winter I focus on being a ski guide around the mountain range and also the volcanoes, this is how I spend part of my time on the winter seasons as well as teaching backcountry ski and avalanche awareness courses.

Be part of the “safety crew” at some TV shows are part of my schedulle around the year as well us the photo trips and “overlands” in Patagonia.

During summer, I guide trekking and climbing trips throughout Patagonia focusing mainly in the Bariloche area.

My certification includes:

  • Full UIAGM mountain guide (International Federation of Mountain Guide Association)
  • Member of the commite of AAGM
  • High mountain guide AAGM (Argentinian Asociation of Mountain Guides)
  • WFR Wilderness First Responder

The languages I am fluent are English, Italian and Spanis

Training and Courses

Mountain climbing, alpine rocks climbing and glaciers traverse are excellent offers for training in the different mountain disciplines!
These are some of the activities we have around, plus the excellent crew of professionals that can help you improve your skills and technique in the different terrain!!

Along the year, there is an opened calendar with different courses and "clinics", all of them with a subject that depends on the terrain and focus what we are looking for!

Trekking is a great way to connect with the natural environment. There is always more to discover, over the next ridge, the next viewpoint!

Reaching up, connected to the stone... is it an exercise or an instinct? There are many reasons to climb but the most important is... why not!

Something challenging or a good excuse to travel, maybe these are the options to bring us the motivation to achieve a new adventure in Patagonia!!

Bariloche and around has an excellent terrain for the ski touring. Many mountain huts spread around in the different valleys make special the place..
